First Frankenstein Assignment After you read the book, and review the material in this folder, send me an email with at two (2) comments or questions to raise in discussion during class. What issues does the book raise in your mind? What do you want to know about the science and history behind this book? What moral dilemmas do you uncover in the book? What do you think about the main characters? The lesser characters? Any of these types of issues will do for you to focus on in your response. As with all weekly assignments, this counts toward your participation grade. I would like this submitted to me no later than late Sunday evening. 2. Second Frankenstein Assignment This assignment is due no later than Feb 6 (the Friday after we begin discussion Frankenstein). Write a character analysis of one main character and one supporting character in Frankenstein. Your analysis should be about 200 words for each character, or 400 words total. Explain why the character is a main character (round? dynamic?) and what you know about the character after reading the book. What motivates the character to behave as he or she does? How does the character change over the course of the story, and why? For the secondary character, analyze his or her role in the book: what is he or she there to do in terms of making a main character's actions or thoughts or feelings make sense? How does he or she contribute to making the setting realistic, or in advancing the plot, or in creating a thematic element in the story? Email your assignment to me as an attachment in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) or as a Rich Text Format file (.rtf). 3. I will post a quiz on the lecture material here Jan 29 You will have until Tuesday before class to complete the quiz. I will post another quiz after our class discussion and that quiz will focus on the novel itself. So, quiz one = lecture and ppt info, and quiz two = the novel itself.
