The Quality Control tools available through the Process and Print/Publish function fall into types: Reconciliation and Verification. Understanding the difference is key to using them effectively.
The quality control Reports should be run periodically as you edit, and again when editing of a Job is complete. These tools assist the user in preparing the completed Job for submission, helping to locate editing errors within the project. The automated reports check for completeness, consistency and provide construction management requirements. They are designed to automate the process of identifying and locating errors and discrepancies in the specifications.
These reports can be selected from the SI Explorer's File menu Process & Print/Publish | Reports Tab dialog box. After processing, the Reports are found in the SI Explorer's left pane under the Job's Processed Files folder. They carry a file extension of .RPT.
All errors cited in the reports must be corrected before a Job can be released at 100 percent. It is the specification editor's responsibility to notify the engineer of any problems listed on these reports.

The three keys to getting accurate Report results are:
Make sure you Job contains Sections:
MasterFormat™ 1995 ~ 01330 Submittal Procedures and 01420 Sources for Reference Publications.
MasterFormat™ 2004 ~ 01 33 00 Submittal Procedures and 01 42 00 Sources for Reference Publications.
Process all Sections, not just some Sections, even if you have not yet edited all of them (you can ignore errors reported for the Sections not yet edited)
Choose all three Reconcile checkboxes (Address, Reference and Submittals)

Three tips that apply to resolving problems on any of the Reports are:
Always check first to see if the problem is the result of a typographical error.
Display the Marks
to check spacing -- each space will be represented by one dot on the screen.
You can show Marks
using the command on the Editor's View
menu
or by selecting
the show Marks button
on the SI Toolbar
Double-click any Section number within a Report to open that Section in the Editor. Your cursor will be placed at the Subpart containing the problem. Tags are automatically hidden when you use this hyperlinking from the Reports, but before making any changes, display the tags on your screen to insure accuracy.
