The Bold Look of KOHLER Winter Palace
Winter Palace Snow swept landscapes and villas of the czars inspired this luxurious bathroom suitable for visiting Russian nobility, or for making anyone feel regal.  The petite bathroom, done in a classic combination of white and cobalt blue with accents of jade and gold, was created by Sheila Baker ASID..

The graceful sculpted lavatory with its fluted pedestal and delicate latticework pattern lend a certain feminine aspect to the room.  Baker said she wanted the room to feel crisp and invigorating, to sparkle like freshly fallen snow under starlight.  The floor is a brilliant field of shiny white ceramic tile laid on the diagonal with a regular pattern of cobalt blue square "buttons" spaced every foot.  For whimsical effect, glittery gold stars are hand-painted in random galaxies across the walls which feature a white-on-white stripe.

The mirror over the lavatory is inset into a wall grotto defined by ceramic tile that echoes the Slavic tea set pattern of the fixture and faucet trim.

To the right of the lavatory is a corner shower -- its placement dictated by the flow-through traffic pattern of the room.  The shower's frameless glass doors seemingly disappear, allowing the wall treatment to show through so clearly that there's no interruption to the sense of interior design and color palette.

Opposite the lavatory and shower are a toilet and bidet.  Above these fixtures the designer has built in an oversized bookcase with mirrored back and sides that serves to enlarge the room and add another dazzling element to the space.  The sense of elegance in the bathroom is enhanced by custom woodworking throughout.  Cove paneling and sculpted wood pilasters surround the bookcase; the ceiling has curved antique crown molding.

The lighting for the room adds a glistening effect, as well.   Recessed downlights within the mirrored bookcase add sparkle that reflects into the room.  Gilt Queen Anne sconces frame the lavatory mirror.
