1. Installation Notes
Please make sure to exit all other Windows and DOS applications before installing the KOHLER K600 Design Manual. There might be conflicts between Windows Setup tools and other applications if they continue running while you are installing any new application. This is a good practice to follow whenever you install a new program.

Installation instructions for Windows® 95, 98 or NT 4.0:

If your CD-ROM drive supports the AutoPlay feature, you will be presented with a screen asking you to either Run or Quit the KOHLER K600 Design Manual program when the CD-ROM is inserted into the drive. If you have not already installed the program, pick the Run button and you'll begin the setup process. Follow the instructions and you're ready to begin.

Or, if AutoPlay isn't supported by your PC, you may install the program manually:
1.  Pick the Start button on the Taskbar.
2. Choose Run from the Start menu.
3. In the Command Line box, type d:\setup, where d is the letter representing your CD-ROM drive, and press ENTER.
4. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

Remove the program:
If you wish to remove this program from your hard disk, please click the "Remove" icon provided in the program group.

Problems updating files on a network:
Note: If you are using MSOffice on a Local Area Network and do not have the rights to write to the disk drive with MSAPPS, an access violation will occur during installation of this CD-ROM. Select Ignore and continue on with the installation. If the CD-ROM does not operate after installation, have your network administrator install the CD-ROM and it will automatically update the appropriate DLL file on the drive with MSAPPS.

Note on Internet Explorer 4.0 installation
Under Windows 95 and NT, the program will search for an existing version of Internet Explorer 4.0 (IE4.). If IE4.0 is not already installed, it will automatically go through the installation process for it. Please note that installation of IE4.0 requires rebooting of your computer. There are options for modifying the desktop that the users may not select if not interested.

Note on running the program – Single click vs multiple clicks
This program operates in a browser-type mode. Meaning that a single click of the mouse button on the commands and hyper-links would suffice. Please note that multiple clicking or rapid clicks on a single button or hyperlink could cause unexpected results.

2. Installing Adobe Acrobat
Acrobat Reader is not automatically installed during the installation.
If you do not already have a version of Acrobat Reader installed, the first time you open a technical document (PDF) a dialogue message will prompt you to install Acrobat v4.05.
If you already have an earlier version of Acrobat Reader, you will be given the option to install v4.05.
It is preferable to manually uninstall earlier versions before installing v4.05.
To do so, go to
Start/Program Files/Adobe Acrobat and Select [Uninstall Adobe Acrobat version 'n'], where 'n' is any version number preceding v4.05.
If you would like to manually prompt installation of Adobe Acrobat Reader v4.05, go to the ‘Contact Us’ page from the main menu and select the ‘To load Adobe Acrobat 4.05’ link.

3. Requirements and Recommendations
a. This program requires a PC running Windows 95, 98 or NT 4.0.
b. A minimum of a Pentium 90 processor is required for acceptable performance. A faster PC is highly recommended for viewing animation and video as well as quickly paging through color schemes.
c. Your PC must be able to display at least 256 simultaneous colors. However, a display capable of displaying 16,000 or more colors is highly recommended to avoid "palette shifting" which is a side effect of using only 256 colors.
d. This program was optimized for use with at least a 2X speed CD-ROM drive. A faster drive may also speed up the use of this program.
e. 16 MB physical memory minimum and a large Windows swap file. More physical memory will improve the speed of the program substantially, especially in Windows 95, 98 and NT versions.

4. Video Support
Microsoft Windows 95, 98 (NT 4.0) ships with its own video playback support. If you did not install video support when Windows 95, 98 (NT 4.0) was installed, you must add video support through the Windows Control Panel. If video support is not yet available in your Windows 95, 98 (or NT 4.0) system, setup will automatically bring you to the Add/Remove Programs feature so you can add video support. Please note you must reboot the computer after making this change for it to take effect.

5. Compatibility with Microsoft Windows 95, 98 and Windows NT 4.0®
Windows 95, 98 and Windows NT 4.0 Taskbar and full-screen programs:
This program takes advantage of the entire available screen area and will display a black background on screens with higher that 640x480 resolution to provide better contrast when doing presentations, etc. To display the Taskbar, press Ctrl+Esc or the Windows key.

6. User Registration
If you filled out your Registration during setup, it will be kept by the program and used appropriately to fill in forms when necessary.

7. Changing your proxy settings
If you need to change your proxy settings for Kohler K600, you can do so by changing them in Internet Explorer 4.0. Please refer to Internet Explorer Help or your network administrator.

8. Hyperlink Colors
Please note that the hyperlinks inside the program follow the same settings that you have for Internet explorer. The hyperlinks that have not been clicked on before appear in their respective color (blue as the default) and they change to the visited hyperlink colors (default red). By removing temporary Internet files through your Internet Explorer, you will be able to change color of all visited hyperlinks to the default (not visited) colors.

9. Troubleshooting
a. Under Windows 95 or 98, if your sound or video plays back poorly from the CD-ROM, you should make sure that you are not using MSCDEX.EXE (the older DOS CD-ROM extension). This older driver may slow down your CD-ROM and give less than optimal performance, while only providing DOS CD-ROM support for some older DOS programs. If you are having trouble with playback from your CD-ROM, check your AUTOEXEC.BAT file and comment out the line for MSCDEX and reboot. This may fix the problem.
b. If you get an out of memory error message, try unloading your other applications and restarting KOHLER K600 Design Manual. If the problem still persists, make sure you have at least 16MB of physical memory installed in your computer and a large swap file. Go to Program Manager, pick Help/About from the menu and see that you have at least 20MB of memory (combined RAM and swap file). If the problem still persists, please contact VISCOMM.
c. If you have installed the program on your hard disk and the videos are jumpy, you probably have a heavily fragmented hard disk. In such a case you will need to "defrag" your hard drive. Another possibility is that you have a very slow hard drive. To find out about the defragmentation (defrag) process, please consult your Windows manuals.
d. If you are running from the CD-ROM and videos are jumpy, you either have a slow (1x) CD-ROM drive or there is a problem with the communication between the CD-ROM drive and the computer. Try another CD-ROM with similar level of videos and see if the problem persists. If it does, contact a system specialist to check out your computer's settings and components. Otherwise, contact VISCOMM.

10. Remove Program
To remove this CD-ROM, select the Remove icon from your Start menu. You can also remove by picking KOHLER K600 Design Manual in the Control Panel's Add/Remove Programs feature.

Please note: Some DLLs will not uninstall because they are required for use by other programs. This behavior is expected because the setup program upgrades some components of Windows. Once upgraded, components cannot be downgraded. This is common for ALL application programs. Remove programs can only safely uninstall files which are unique to the main application, not files already on the computer before running setup.

Remove programs may fail to complete if errors are encountered, thus leaving behind menu icons. If uninstall fails to remove program icons from the Start Menu, they can be manually removed. To remove the menu icons, right-click on the Start button, pick Explore, find the menu item in the Programs folder and simply delete it.

11. Known Issues
a.  In the Product Selector areas, the program may crash or lock up if the user rapidly clicks all possible selections back to "All" after having made other selections. This can be avoided by simply clicking on the "Clear Choices" buttons.
b.  Users may encounter errors when using the KOHLER K600 Design Manual with Internet Explorer 5.0 installed on their computer. This product was developed using Internet Explorer 4.0 and was fully tested using version 4.0. As version 5.0 was not available for full testing during development, user may encounter some problems using version 5.0 and the KOHLER K600 Design Manual. The only known issue is that users should install the Visual Basic Scripting options during Installation of Internet Explorer 5.0. Problems will occur in the area of the Quick Finder if all these options are not installed.
c.  Users should not remove the KOHLER K600 Design Manual CD from the CD ROM drive while using the CD. Doing so will cause the program to crash.
