In this bath, designer William Manly, ASID, visualized the romance and elegance of a Parisian apartment. He "layered" the room to give each level equal importance. The second level with the bay window was perfect for the free-standing bathtub so reminiscent of a bygone era. For elegance, a simple window treatment of silk Roman shades with matching pleated lambrequin in cinnamon was employed. For privacy, the room offers a brass-framed screen of sheer silk. On the lower level, the arrangement of the bidet, toilet and lavatory readily fall into place. The fittings of these fixtures dictated brass appointments throughout the space to extend the ambiance. The brass railing provides added safety, but also ties the two levels together. To convey a feeling of timelessness and avoid the impression that the room is a staged set, Manly decorates the space with possessions he imagined its occupants might have accumulated previously. A mirror with frame and trumeau in a chinoiserie design and an Oriental wool runner may have been purchased on a trip to the Far East. A 19th century French armoire may be a family heirloom. The ambiance of the room is continued through overlapped, handmade parchment wallcovering in beige and grey tones and wood parquet flooring. About the Designer PRODUCT/SOURCE LIST Kohler Co.
