Angie May-Lin Sheldon's very feminine floral bathroom was designed to inspire the mood for romance. She conceived her bathroom as a woman's private retreat -- tranquil, inviting, exclusive. The contrasting textures of shiny tiles and soft fabrics, and moody colors all contribute to a sensuous feeling. Entering the room is like stepping into a bouquet of flowers. A stenciled floral and ribbon motif is hand-painted on the bleached oak floor and reappears near the upper corners of the walls. The designer delineated separate function areas within the room by using the whirlpool bath and its tile surround as a room divider. This approach avoids blocking the natural light that floods the room from a large window bay. A half wall on one side of the surround creates a modesty screen for the toilet. A floral design, etched glass panel visually completes the room division while still allowing window light to bathe the space. The room has distinct areas for cleansing and grooming. The fixtures are aligned against one wall, while on the opposite side are a dressing screen and vanity. A mirrored corner defines the vanity, with an L-shaped glass dressing table, etched with the signature floral motif. Nearby stands a dressing screen, hand-painted in classical style. The window treatment is a swag of seafoam and lavender moire, pulled back with elegant tassels to offer a glimpse of the outside. The polished chrome faucets and matching accessories bring an old-fashioned romantic touch to the room. The designer found the hand-held shower particularly charming as a period accent.
