Looking to the new millennium, Jim Dase, CKD, CBD, found inspiration for this contemporary space. Expressing a new attitude in bathroom design, the designer challenged conventional boundaries by exploring unusual applications of nearly all of the room’s components. Product placement is out of the ordinary; the use of angles throughout the room improves the ergonomics of the small space. Clear, cobalt blue, green and aqua glass tile define the showering space and provide the major design element of the room. Accented by custom-textured glass shelves and shower screen, the tile is applied in a random, three-dimensional pattern. This is offset by a gridwork of natural maple wall panels and hammered wire glass skylight.

Slate tile is installed upside-down to give the floor, countertop and seating a smooth, polished feel. This unique installation also provides a deep luster as the mica and quartzite in the tile sparkle in the light. The high-gloss finish of the lavatory and toilet provides a contrast to the matte luster of the slate tile. Fanciful faucet handles are mounted on the front of the counter and used as robe hooks on the wall, demonstrating alternatives to the customary installation.

At the back of the room, a generous showering space features a skillful application of components for customizing a shower. The creative utilization of lighting on the walls and ceiling, coupled with the dramatic use of mirrors and angles, creates a visually stimulating environment.
