A painting by French artist Henri Toulouse-Lautrec was the design source for Gay Fly's sophisticated master suite bath. Fly decorated the space with fine furniture which warms the room and makes it a more livable space -- where you could, for instance, sit and visit as someone was shaving or soaking. Borrowing from the paintings palette, the room is bathed in rich colors which include a deep rose wallpaper. In stark contrast, white stucco columns with inset storage cubicles border a mirrored wall; black cabinetry and furniture pieces are prominently placed. The marble flooring, in a rose hue with black and white veining, melds these three principle color themes. The splash of yellow is achieved with brilliant brass faucets and accessories. The quietness of the plumbing fixture color ties in nicely with the smooth and silky look of the limestone countertop. Architectural elements, such as the stucco niches and the jog in the room created by a shower enclosure, help to separate areas for specific tasks. Adjoining the whirlpool is a make-up area defined by mirrored walls. On one side of this space, a black desk dressing table sits in front of a wide floor-to-ceiling mirror. Separating the grooming area from the toilet, bidet and dressing alcove at the room's other end is a dramatic limestone shower chamber which is sufficiently deep that a door is not needed to close-off the space from the rest of the bathroom. Both a fixed showerhead and a hand-held personal shower enhance the experience. The designer has also placed an antique faux finish secretary in this area to serve as a breakfast bar, complete with coffee maker. This tall cabinet is also useful for towel storage. Overhead lighting in the room is connected to zone control dimmers for illumination variety. About the Designer PRODUCT / SOURCE LIST Kohler Co. Ann Sacks Tile & Stone
