Art In Everyday Life

KOHLER Main Office Mural   KOHLER Main Office Mural

The importance of art in everyday life is further enhanced by a series of murals found in Kohler's main office lobby. Seven murals painted by industrial artist Arthur Covey depict larger-than-life-sized men pouring molten iron and sifting enamel powder, as well as other steps in the manufacture of enameled cast iron. Walter J. Kohler, former company president, believed in the importance of the individual who, in his words, "deserved not only wages, but roses as well."

The murals were one of his many endeavors to enrich the everyday lives of the men and women who dedicated themselves to Kohler Co. It was his philosophy that before a worker could aspire to greatness and pride of workmanship, he should be surrounded by the best this country had to offer. Today, that philosophy is still evident. Works from the corporate art collection are displayed throughout company buildings and the Village of Kohler. The planting of thousands of trees and seasonal flowers on the expansive lawns of the company buildings are also a continuation of the company's effort to improve and enrich the working environment for Kohler associates.
